I had gotten a few oil changes at this location (overpriced but it's close to work and convenient) the guys had always been nice and seemed to know what they were doing. When my car started hemorrhaging coolant I took it there to see what a radiator replacement would run... I think Nick (tech there) must have seen the stressed out nurse with a car seat in the back seat and saw an easy mark because all of a sudden I need a new alternator as well, oh and the air conditioner needs service.
With parts he quotes $1,250! Not having it I asked what the radiator replacement alone would be if I brought the ($120 btw) part and he says labor would be $520. Now the shop charges $100/hr for labor (overpriced but ok I guess) and he'd told me that it was a 3hr job (shouldn't be, but again... Ok) with the alternator and air conditioning system... Anyone else seeing an issue with that math?
He got all squiggly when I called him out on it and never did give me a straight answer regarding how he came to the total.
Took the car to tonys auto repair on eastern and sunset with the $120 radiator and Jose put it in for $130 flat rate taking about an hour. The next day it was leaking trans fluid due to a bad fitting on the radiator. I took it back to tony's and Jose (who stayed late to help me) fixed the fitting and charged $20 for the trans fluid. He also talked to me and showed me what he was doing every step of the way.
I am writing about tony's to demonstrate the ridiculous difference in price, service and ethics. Steer clear of tire works and similar chains, find yourself a legit mechanic who is honest and takes pride in what they do.
Tony's for those of you interested is on
