  • DO NOT ENROLL IN A MEMBERSHIP AT URBAN ACTIVE. DO NOT ENROLL AT ANY OF THEIR FACILITIES. I enrolled in September of 2009 and quickly realized they signed me up for 2 years even though I stated to the woman who I worked with (Jenn) that I would only be needing a 1 year pass. This was just the first sign that my membership with Urban Active would be one that I would regret for years to come. I called back the next day to clear all of this up and had to argue with "management" to change the contract from 2 to 1 year. Little did I know that I wouldn't get to use my membership much at all due to a new job. Fast forward to November 2010 and I am living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I call Urban Active to see if my membership had expired and the gentleman who answered at the Westlake, Ohio branch said: "No, man your good till next November 2011." This seems quite unusual so I also asked the gentleman when the last time I had been into the gym, and he said: "MARCH 21, 2010." I had not been into the gym in nearly 8 and they had either lied about correcting my membership term or renewed my contract for another year. So what do I do as a consumer having not used my membership for 8+months? I sent in their Customer Cancellation Form and have yet to hear back from them regarding my membership and it has been nearly 30 days. While I await to hear from Urban Active because they have no central customer service that I can contact (you can only speak with management at the particular location you enrolled at) I am debating further action. At this point having paid for 13 months of service that I was only able to use 5 of I am going to take the legal route. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a formal complaint and I will be contacting my attorney to ensure that I am no longer a member of Urban Active and their UNETHICAL AND IMMORAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. So that is my experience with Urban Active. Please do not make the same mistake that I made because you will regret it.
