| - It had been awhile since my last visit to M&P, mostly because scoring a brunch reservation is about as easy as getting a hole-in-one. But with a little planning we did it, and were really looking forward to the brunch. I had the short rib hash, and my friends had the granola and berries and the huevos ranchero. We had the sticky bun as an appetizer. In order of greatness: huevos ranchero was spicy and excellent. The short rib hash and the granola were both good, but not great. My hash was underwelming, the short rib meat was tender and delicious but there were only a few bites, mostly potatoes in my skillet. The poached eggs and horseradish sauce were the best part, and I just wanted more meat! The presentation of the yogurt and granola was unique, and the combination of fresh berries and dried fruit made for a great texture/flavor combination, but atop two slices of raisin walnut bread it was just well...odd. The bread was dense, so it wasn't soggy, but there was just something bland about it. I would have loved more of the ricotta and the granola sans bread! Last on our favorites list was the sticky bun, which was on the specials list. First, know that the appetizer is a single sticky bun, do not be mislead by the plural form listed on the menu. It was on the dry side, and we all just wanted to dunk it straight into our coffee. We all commented that a sticky bun is supposed to be sticky...this was more of a cinnamon roll...without icing.
Overall, it's still a great atmosphere, the DJ was a great bonus on Sunday morning before a Pirates game, cocktails looked spectacular as always. Definitely get the heuvos ranchero, and from the looks of the table next to us...get the chicken and waffles...and share it...because it looked AMAZING!
