| - After completing the Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 courses (10 weeks total) I feel like I definitely learned things that have put me closer to my goal of speaking more than the standard minimums of "resort spanish". As a point of comparison, coming in to these classes my skills were pretty much limited to: "hola / donde es la bano / un cerveza por favor / buenos dias".
The "Beginner 1 + 2" courses came to just over $310 after tax, and gets you a 10 week course of 2 hour classes once per week. So basically 20 hours of learning, and the class size was in the ballpark of 7-10 people.
First you'll learn about the rules of the language, from the different conjugations of verbs and rules for masculine and feminine nouns to name a few. From there we covered things like how to tell time, ordering food, verbiage into a variety of things including clothing, household items, colors, jobs, and then into locations and prepositions to name a few things.
My teacher was good in the sense that he was a likable guy, and took time to explain things and recap it the following week to seeing that things fore the most part made sense. I'm also the type to ask a lot of questions and he was patient in going back to clarify things that didn't make sense for me. I also liked that he did exercises that were interactive and not just textbook work. That said....
One thing I really think could use improvement here, is the workbooks given with the class. One of the most frustrating things with this book when trying to go back and re-learn things is that the book is like 95% spanish. So even the instructions telling me what to do, I have to go to Google Translate and type in the instructions just to figure out what I'm doing. The teacher did a good job of explaining what to do on specific homework exercises, but when they only assign a fraction of the book to work on, it made the bulk of the books un-usable to me.
Overall, I'm happy with the investment and although will be trying a few different things before I consider coming back to continue here, will say that what I learned was useful and good foundations for my expected continued Spanish learning.
