  • After seeing this place "coming soon!" for so long, it was great to finally try it out tonight. I met up with a couple friends here after work and as I got there first, I scored a seat for three in the front room. My friends got there soon enough and we ordered beers such as Red Rocket and the house Roosevelt, which is kind of a subtle framboise. Plus some wine. For eats we got a pretzel and a couple of the sandwiches. The pretzel was amazing, but by then I had a beer and only a bad tuna sandwich from Subway for lunch, so who knows. I tried one of the sandwhiches, which was prociutto, mortadella, gorgonzola, and something else in a panini and it was mighty tasty. The place itself is great - a converted formerly delapidated Craftsman home. Hardwood floors. Nice simple style in each room. The word is definitely out about this place because it was pretty crowded this evening. The only downsides were, first, the service. Our server forgot my second order of beer (even though she brought drinks for the other people in the room) and we'd just sit there and wait. And wait. Until we gave up on it. Then there was the music. Loud, obnoxious 98.7 The Peak stuff. Great for an ASU or Scottsdale bar, but for a wine bar it seemed a little odd. Hopefully they'll have that sorted. No biggie, though. The place just opened, so I'll let them work their kinks out. If after a couple months my drink orders keep getting sent to Neverland, then I'll think about star dockage. But until then, Matt's definitely done an impressive job. Phoenix needs more little places like these. Thumbs up.
