| - I only live a mile from Red Rock Casino, so it might be easy for me to find reasons to like it. It might also be easy for me to find reasons to be angry with a place that should otherwise be awesome and convenient. Fortunately, after living as close as I do for four years now, I'm happy to say Red Rock offers a great off-the-strip casino experience.
Getting there is easy since it's located just off the 215 and west Charleston Blvd. When you arrive, the parking lot faces Charleston Blvd and pretty big, but don't be surprised if you can't find an open spots up close to the casino. It seems there are always enough people there that you'll end up parking out in the middle of the lot. There are also two parking garages--one on the east end of the casino, and one on the west--with a respectable number of spaces. Once you know the layout of the casino, pick the lot that gets you closest to what you're there to do.
Gaming: The floor is laid out well and it's easy to navigate to the games you prefer to play. The Sports Book is nice, spacious and accessible. And all around you'll find the usual assortment of slots and table games. There's even a big room for Bingo. Related, I think the environment is overall better than average for most casinos these days. While the smoke is noticeable, it appears the management ensures the air handling system is operating well and doing it's best to filter the air. It's interesting to me that some of the "high end" casinos on the strip seem to have let their environmental systems languish during these economic hard times. I don't know what Red Rock is doing differently, but the air isn't as bad as most others.
Dining: We definitely have some favorite eateries here: Yard House being an old favorite, and the recently added Mercadito (Mexican) and Lucille's (BBQ) fast becoming reasonably priced new favorites. Looking for a fancier steak dinner on a special night out? Try T-Bones. Just need something to go? Grab a sandwich at Capriotti's. And there's much more. To see the whole assortment of options, hit the website, or better yet, just go visit the casino.
Other entertainment: My wife and I frequent the Regal Cinemas there. With 16 screens, if there's a movie that we think is worth paying theater prices for, it's usually on one of their screens. They have IMAX screens too. The pool is beautiful, easy to get to, and understandably located favoring access from the hotel end of the complex. There's also a bowling alley and even a kids arcade. Red Rock also holds concerts and other events in their indoor and outdoor venues.
If you haven't discovered Red Rock Casino yet, give it a try. Grab dinner, watch a movie, then enjoy a little time playing your favorite game. It's a fantastic casino option without having to deal with the usual congestion on the Strip.
