  • I love a local place where the regulars are smoking outside and taking their spots at the bar which is where I ate. Started off by the nicest lady greeting me and making me feel like a regular even though this is my first visit. I ordered the fried zucchini as I love that appetizer. This one had actual flavor in the breading and you could taste the zucchini and was delicious. The chicken vegetable soup tasted homemade. I don't know if it was but it tasted it. So good. The trout almandine was the perfect portion size and do I really need to say why the baked potato was so good? Why can't everyone make a perfect baked potato? The flavors on my meal were outstanding. NOW.... most won't agree with my review. Most people like that trendy... mediocre... Luke warm greeting by hired kids as hostesses (I don't go to Hillstone any longer after years of patronage because I just got tired of the pretentiousness of the staff.... you work there... stop acting like that makes you better than me) and food that is good but not outstanding and the prices about 7-9 dollars more than the food is worth.... I mean.... 5-9$ for a bake potato other places? Please. This is a place where you have to choose from many popular items on the menu and you can come back 2-3 times a month or more.... because it's like eating at home but in a restaurant. I was happy to eat here. I will definitely be back. If you need to see and be seen go to the new places. If you just want to eat a good decent meal.... Feeney's is it. Old school. I feel like everyone from the cooks to the very nice bartender.... George was invested in my dinner.... oh the lady who nicely greeted me and talked to me on the way out?..... THE OWNER. good luck with that at any trendy Phoenix restaurant. Mealand appetizer with a good glass of Merlot.... $35. I feel as though I got my money's worth. I mean jeez I just spent $348 with tip for dinner for two at Steak 44. I don't think it was $300 better than my meal here.... even though Steak 44 is still my favorite restaurant. Please try this place the next time you get tired of being disappointed at other places. I'm thinking your review would be 3-4 stars. Not me. I like and miss this type of restaurant.
