| - My fiancé and I had a heavy craving for soul food and decided to try something closer to home rather than our usual spot.
We got there around 1:00pm give or take 5 minutes. We waited about 15 minutes since tables had to be cleaned. Which was no big deal, Sunday lunch rush I'm assuming. We got to choose where to sit which was great.
I loved the wall decore. It was very family-oriented and had an old school vibe with good culture behind each picture. But it got old after about an hour of staring, waiting for our food.
I ordered waffle and wings, the fiancé ordered the fried smothered chicken, with chicken gravey, potatoes, and mac.
So an hour in for my chicken and wings and his smothered chicken. Started to get a little sour when other tables were getting their food at a faster rate, but I don't know their orders or wait time. There was a large party of 10 in also, which likely had an impact as well. So that's fine, as long as the food is good. Ya know, worth the wait.
Unfortunately it was dry. The waffle was amazing though! But the chicken was lackluster and appeared to be overcooked in the fryer. This occurred on both our plates. Although crispy and seasoned well, it needed a lot of gravy and syrup. The egg on the side was overdone also. I ordered sunny side, got something that was viaually akin to over easy, and ended up with no yolk.
The gravy was great and the sweet tea was good. My fiancé enjoyed the mac. The corn bread was the absolute BEST part of our meal. Soft, moist, flavorful; everything it should be.
Another plus is that the waitress was wonderful. I have a feeling she felt bad for the wait since she kept refilling our drinks to the 9s and did her best to make sure we were taken care of. Good service on her end!
Overall, not impressed by the food, upset that I waited for an hour and fifteen, and hoping to one day give this place another chance if possible, if only for the for bread.
I would have loved to try the sweet potato pie, and my fiancé would have ordered another mac, but we didn't want to sit for another half hour of our only day off.
