| - When I'm cooking, I mean really cooking, I'll only shop at Whole Foods. Daily groceries, eh... But if I'm entertaining, it's a non-discussion.
I recently spent a good bit of time at the West Side Market, which I LOVE, and couldn't find a steak that looked better than something I'd find at Marc's. Now, that's disappointing. Went to Whole Foods and had a whole selection of beautifully marbled, dry-aged strips and ribeyes to choose from. That's what I'm talking about.
Their cheese selection is the best I've personally seen anywhere in Cleveland. They have some of those fancy ingredients that you come across when you're pushing yourself in the kitchen, and that makes it fun - to not have to use a crappy substitute.
Their produce is wonderful. I recently got some pears that were the tastiest I'd ever had. Their greens are always just about perfect.
I sometimes wish they had a few more mainstream products so I could knock those out while I was there, but where do you draw the line? I think they do a fine job.
My one complaint is that once, I had to spend a significant amount of time de-boning an otherwise beautiful slab of sea bass that was $25/pound - that's a lot of money to have to do anything to it at home other than portion it. I have NEVER had that problem at Heinen's, but Heinen's comes up short in other areas.
