| - Tried my first free visit today and I won't be back. A good spin class (or any good group fitness class) at a regular gym would be better and only 10-20% of the price. One of their huge sales pitches is heart rate monitoring to hit your fitness targets. My first and second heart rate monitors that I used during the class, both hopelessly malfunctioned repeatedly. If tech is your sales pitch, the tech should actually work.
The instructor Molly seemed like a very nice person, but she never once said anything to me during class. The class was crowded and she was supportive to some of the veterans. But yes, never once spoke to me during the entire class. If I'm going to pay $150/month, I want to be motivated & pushed a little, not lost in the masses. She demonstrated strength exercises briefly, then we were on our own. Her version was different ("harder") than the video, so if I forgot exactly how to perform an exercise, I was on my own. Never did she once correct anyone's form. I got very confused which half of the class she was talking to: "you have 30 seconds" Who, me? Or the people on the treadmills? In all fairness, I'm sure I would learn the flow if I ever planned to go back.
Within a month or two, I know I would become very bored using only treadmills and rowing machines for so much money. I need a harder workout, with more personal motivation, if I'm going to spend this kind of money. I plan to go back to Boot Camp or CrossFit as I have in the past. I think OTF would be perfect for a beginner exerciser that is intimidated by a big gym. I would recommend saving your money and joining LVAC and finding some good group fitness classes OR paying for a personal trainer if you have the extra cash. This was just a poor mishmash of the two.
