  • I booked this hotel a few days before I headed to Pittsburgh. For some reason during that weekend, most of the hotels were completely booked around the downtown Pittsburgh area. Probably a combination of the college kids heading back to school (parents dropping their kids off) and all the sporting events. I ended up paying almost $300/night. It wasn't until the drive to Pittsburgh that I started reading some of the Yelp reviews. One review after another talked about the rude staff, the moldy bathrooms with hair and urine stains all around, the noise level, etc... I was a bit upset with myself for not checking out the reviews before booking. I just figured that an expensive hotel meant an exceptional room with amazing view. To say the least, I stepped into the hotel with low expectations. I was almost afraid to open the door when I got to my room. I slowly opened the door expecting a strong moldy smell and maybe a few bugs running around. I was surprised to find that not only was there no moldy smell, the room was actually pretty clean (and I am a clean freak!) The bathroom was spotless. They had nice sliding glass doors on the shower that kept the bathroom floor dry and I especially liked the shower head. The bed sheets looked very clean and pressed. Nice air conditioning. I paid $20 extra for a view of the river. The room had a fantastic view of point state park, though I would have appreciated a floor higher up considering how much I was paying. The walls are pretty thin, but fortunately we had quiet neighbors. There were only 2 little things that did bother me during our stay. First is that I paid for a room with a king bed, but the room had a queen bed. The other was the chair with the ripped seat. The room also did not have a refrigerator. There were extra blankets in the cabinet where the refrigerator once was. I didn't interact with the staff much. Nothing really stood out about their service. Word of advice - don't bother with the expensive valet parking. Self-parking is cheaper and there are parking spots all around. Would I stay here again? Maybe if I get a better deal on the hotel room. I think a more reasonable price for the room would have probably been in the range of $100-150/night.
