  • Ok. I've given it a lot of thought. I've been to Earth Fare a bunch of times since they opened and I've settled on the 4 stars. I wish the produce section was bigger. I feel like there is just a bunch of stuff missing for some reason. In general the store is just cramped. God help you if it's busy in there. Earth Fare is solid. I love the prominent bulk grain/nut section. I really don't use EF as one-stop shopping - just usually produce, meat and dairy. These are very high quality at EF - I'd say the same as WF, better than TJ. No, it isn't the cheapest. Good food (especially meat, dairy, and produce) is not cheap. We Americans seriously need to get this through our collective head. People in other countries spend at minimum 5% more of their income on food than we do. Some spend 10+ % more - and they're healthier. I could go all science-y and throw out some facts and crap, but I won't. Let's just say, it's not a coincidence. Aaannywaay....I get what people are saying about prices. There are certainly a lot of things that are cheaper at GE or Heinen's. But there are plenty of products where EF wins on price. One example I saw just the other day was Stonyfield Farm organic yogurt cups - NEVER get them for less than a buck at other places. Earth Fare has them (regular, everyday price) for less than a dollar! The exception to this is the prepared food. That pricing is just tacking on a high charge for preparation. I really don't ever buy prepared food from grocery stores so that doesn't really effect me. But I don't think a sushi roll from a grocery store should be $11+ either. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place especially for high quality meat and produce. I appreciate the nice bright and clean store, the friendly, knowledgeable staff, the no-plastic checkout, and the coupon for something free every week in my e-mail (so far a free whole organic chicken and pound of carrots). Who doesn't like a free chicken?
