| - Let me just start by saying, do not judge a book by its cover. I haven't been here since September 2012, so bare with me.
The building that this office is in is a bit outdated, as are the decorations inside. Do not let that scare you away! Although I do appreciate the "breastfeeding acceptance" posters. I loved seeing the babies names posted in their lobby with weights and such. It made me feel like they enjoy delivering babies. They have pictures of babies EVERYWHERE! When you get to your appointment you have to pee in a cup, so come ready with a bladder ready to go. The front desk staff isn't that outgoing, but the ladies who took my weight and blood pressure were always sweet. I felt bad about my weight gain during pregnancy, and they didn't come down on me about it. (which was a relief.)
I came into this office when I was 30 weeks along. They took me in, to my surprise because I heard that women have issues with getting a doctor that late in their pregnancy. My doctor was Dr. Sharon Thompson. She's super sweet and down to earth. I picked a female doctor because I just don't feel like a man would understand what I was going through. She basically sat me down when I came in and was like "We try to do things as naturally as possible around here. No pushing you to do one thing or another." AH! What a sigh of relief! I was in love with the office already. I was sad that they wouldn't give me an ultrasound when I wanted one, but I understand it was insurance reasons. Appointments were quick which was nice because it was mid summer and I was super pregnant and wanted to be home. Just a lot of " do you have any questions?" and responses. I felt a lot of reassurance in my answers to my questions. I swore I was dying because my feet were swollen. She reminded me it was just a part of my pregnancy and once the baby was out I'd be fine! And guess what? I am fine.
Okay, labor talk. I went into her office for my once a week appointment when I was informed that I was 6cm dilated. She asked if I wanted my membranes stripped, and did. It wasn't that bad, and told me what to expect over the next few hours to day. She said "tomorrow you'll be meeting your baby" and I did! She let me push when I wanted to and gave me three different ways to push. I pushed for about an hour to an hour and a half. She wasn't even mad that my water broke on her shoes. We TALKED the whole time I was in labor. The whole room was laughing at one point because people were cracking jokes. (I did have an epidural) I also had an extremely attractive resident guy there to witness his first birth. Super cool.
I never imagined my labor experience would be so amazing. For that, I give her five stars. Yes, there are some imperfections with this office, but to me, she gave me a great experience.
