| - What a great juicy slice of Cleveland local color, roots and dye--kind of a Rusty Magnolias. The average age of the salon may be 63 as the other reviewer mentions, but don't let that turn you off. It ain't your granny's beauty parlor, unless your granny is one spunky lass (and I hope she is). If you're younger than 63, you could ask for Kristen, but I suspect you'd be well-coiffed with any of the Carabel crew. Thanks to Kristen, I got a great $50 haircut for $12 that I love, suits my hair AND didn't leave me looking like someone's soccer-mom late for the bake sale.
I arrived a bit early for my appointment and just soaked up the bustle, clutter and vibe. I've seen a good number of salons, rarely finding a stylist or place I feel comfortable, where it feels like the stylists are free to be themselves, from the funky high end trendy Atlanta ones to low end Phoenix Great Clips types. This Carabel is one of a kind.
There's a great cast of characters working and coming to Carabel's, which tells you a lot about the warmth and good cheer of the place, and the woman that fosters such an environment of loyalty and communtiy. And who can top the record of the last client I met sitting next to me who's been getting her hair done there since 1969!?
If you want a good haircut, a good laugh without the pretentious price or attitude, I couldn't recommend Carabel's enough. Go steep yourself in some good female mojo.
Next time I'm in Cleveland on business, I'll be dropping into Carabel.
Thanks!
