| - I received a La Forfaiterie gift certificate for the menu "La totale" which includes a 5 course meal for 2. A mise en bouche, appetizer, trou normand, entree and dessert. The menu seems to change time to time. We started the dinner with a duck arracinhi, crispy, creamy risotto inside and a hint of duck flavour. Next we tried foie gras and beef tataki. It was like a foie gras torchon, it was good but nothing special, foie gras is foie gras always good!:) the beef tataki was the best appetizer, with a truffle cream sauce and potato crumbles. The flavour combination was well done! The beef was tender and everything was melting together. Miam!
Trou normand was a lemon sorbet with Bombay Gin, very fresh and pleasant. For the entree, i had the chance to taste the duck(magret and confite) risotto, steak and the tuna. Out of the 3, duck risotto was the best, everything was perfect, cheesy creamy risotto well cooked and the duck pieces was very tender. Delicious! The portion was big for one person. The beef was good but a bit dry maybe more sauce would have been nice. The tuna was good, i have 2 bites so.
Finally, desserts, i tried the chocolat dome with banana cream and salty caramel, flan with abricot and a lemon cake with pistachio cream. The chocolat dome was good but too sweet for me, i guess from banana and caramel combination. 1-2 spoons is sufficient, a nice dessert to share. Lemon cake was refreshing with pistachio, spongy lemony cake, i would have that again. And the flan was very light and just sweet enough. Overall excellent dessert list.
It is a BYOW neighbourhood restaurant on Beaubien in a booming area. Service is friendly. I would recommend to discover this place! Good quality food and 50$ menu for a exploration menu is very affordable!
