| - I was really excited to live here because of the updated design of the apartments and the free utilities. However after having lived here for 9 months, I would not recommend these apartments to anyone. And I am writing this review after the apartments have changed management and now is called "The Haver on Thomas" because I feel that there will only be a continuation of bad practices. My largest complaints are items that I asked after that I do not feel were disclosed to me up front.
1) While the apartment units themselves are pretty nice in my opinion, the surrounding neighborhood actually registers pretty high in property crime and muggings. This makes the lack of visitor parking spots particularly problematic, because we are told to park our vehicles off site (thus outside the gate) if we cannot find available visitor parking. But there is no parking off site, and I think that the apartments should disclose up front that there would likely be no social activities for most residents who choose to move there because they cannot have friends over after 7 p.m. Also towing practices seem pretty aggressive and do not allow for extenuating circumstances most of the time. It's very difficult to get a visitor's pass, and the staff is largely unsympathetic
2) My car was stolen in December from the complex itself. There were no security cameras, and the complex has taken no measures to ameliorate the situation whatsoever. After 6 months, I finally purchased a new vehicle and was told that I would have to pay $100 for a new parking pass - even though my prior vehicle was stolen, even though it was stolen from the parking lot of this complex. I even offered to produce a police report that I filed and was told that would not even make a difference.
3) While supposedly background checks have been conducted on all the residents and the apartment generally feels safe, the apartments were once infested with drug dealers and other criminal activity. This leads me to believe that property crime is a much more anticipated thing here than you would expect, hence my car getting stolen. I would carry your own renter's insurance, but would avoid living here if you are the type to care about your stuff.
4) The fitness center is tiny. And in the evenings is mostly used by high school students. And that wouldn't be too bad if there was standing room to use free weights.
5) While pets are welcome, I do not see any sort of enforcement on pet owners to clean up after their animals. In the warm weather, a very unpleasant smell tends to emanate around the buildings.
6) Maintenance has come by my apartment twice to check out the garbage disposal which is on its last legs, but they have told me it is working perfectly. I have to run the garbage disposal anytime I run the tap for more than 5 seconds because the water begins to pool rather than drain as it should. Once the drain is clear (while the disposal is running) the entire sink vibrates as though it's eating a screwdriver.
Cabana/The Haver is selling this idea of nice housing in a supportive community. It seems so promising, however, I feel very unsupported and very not cared about.
