| - I was caught off guard when Charlotte Beers posted about Crafty's soft opening last month. I couldn't believe this bar got started so quickly in my neck of the woods without any hype, but as we pulled up, even from the street I could already tell this place was going to be a quality drinking hole. A historic home zoned commercial with a sweet front porch and ceiling fans overlooking main street. It is located right off 115 beside the Fire Station and Lupe's in downtown Huntersville. Talk about happy hour, it's literally on the way home for half of Lake Norman myself included.
The inside is decked out with wood grain flooring and the whole left side of the house is dedicated to shelves of craft bottles to build your own six packs. The back room contains the brewing supplies, including all your home brew materials, drinking glasses, and even some popular tap handles for sale. You will also find bottles of wine that you can buy by the bottle or glass. The middle of the home is a hallway that leads to the bathroom, which funny enough has it's own shower. I'm sure its only a matter of time before someone drinks too much and tests that out. To the right when you walk in they have a nice seating area with a television and this path also leads you to the bar.
The tap section is a unique custom rig as I think the owners do a lot of private bar installations. This particular setup gives a nod to the nearby Fire Department with a 14 tap system complete with two nitro taps housed into a fire hydrant and even two taps outfitted into one of their old helmets. Right behind the bar is a cooler section with an assortment of cold craft bottles at EXTREMELY affordable prices. I drank about a dozen Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar bottles for $2.50 a piece over the last couple of weeks.
The bartender Ryan is really nice with great taste in music, he runs the tunes that pipe through the home and best of all to the outdoor speakers on the front porch. Nothing beats hanging out on the front porch drinking a beer, chatting with friends, waving at traffic, and listening to good music with a little bluegrass thrown in.
I should also mention this place is dog friendly, and they have an outside grill where you can bring your own meat to cook. They will be utilizing this amenity for the first time in their official grand opening Saturday August 10th.
I have to say this place has an original charm all its own, and makes you feel like you are just hanging out at a friends house drinking a couple of cold ones. It's a great addition for any craft beer lover in the Charlotte area so I highly recommend checking them out if you are ever passing through Huntersville.
