I'm not going to embroil myself in the debate as to the best pizza in Pittsburgh or the world. I'm not going to compare it to the pizza I had in X city that supposedly has some authority to proclaim itself authentic. I'll merely say that I tried Aiello's last night for the first time and I was impressed. The sauce was good, the crust was just the right balance of crisp, yet pliable, and the toppings didn't feel like they were slopped on from a can (onion with half black olive and the other half pineapple). It also didn't feel particularly greasy. All around solid pizza.
I also liked that when I called and they said it would be ready in 15 minutes, that it was. I walked in and 3 minutes later they pulled it out of the oven and I was on my way. I also liked that the place was bright and super clean. You just get the feeling that they are professionals who love what they do.
I don't know if it is my favorite pizza in Pittsburgh, but it's definitely vying for the crown.
