| - I was recently diagnosed with a pituitary macroadenoma. I came to this office thinking I would be establishing a relationship with the endocrinologist I will be needing to look over my health for life!
I Studied Biology and have a general understanding of the inner workings of our bodies. I had done my research for local Endocrinologists and decided Dr. Alamir was the one.
On my first appointment, they sat me in the coldest room in the office (a symptom of my condition is cold intolerance) and made me wait for over an hr.
The physician's assistant, Erin was the first to see me. We went over my history....which I was sure to provide all previous blood work, ultrasound, and MRI as well as give a full detailed history. She did not seem too familiar with my condition and did not have any answers to my questions.
Fast forward another 45 mins and the Doc comes in. I again go over my history and ask questions. Although you can tell he is knowledgable, he seemed frustrated and hesitant to give me any answers on what the cause behind my condition may be. I was directed to get more bloodwork done at their office although it can be done elsewhere for a smaller fee and to see a neurosurgeon and ophthalmologist.
Long story short, I ended up being bounced around to different doctors which didn't have any clue on how to handle someone with my condition. Everyone just said Nuerosurgery...the most extreme treatment for what I have .
After performing requested blood work in their office..I followed up with the PA, Erin. Again, she did not have any answer for me except "This is what you have, go see a neurosurgeon." She couldn't tell me: how to deal with any symptoms in the mean time, any supplements I may take to deal with the hormone deficiency, what treatment would be like after Nuerosurgery...Nothing! Bedside manner was non-existent, even went as far as telling me that my parents "blessed me" with my condition! She said I must be worried about Nuerosurgery because of the cost???
Excuse me? Noooo, how about the fact that if I went along with Nuerosurgery, there are chances of me getting an infection of my cerebral fluid aka meningitis or that it's highly likely I will need hormone replacement for life. Which btw the endocrinologist is supposed to help you with hormone therapy!!!! Her attitude was just disgusting.
Side Note: I am a self pay patient with no insurance. I pay in FULL with absolutely no problem everywhere I go! I was Born and raised in the US but of Colombian and Cuban descent so I fill in everything as Hispanic.
I really hope that I am not being discriminated against for being self pay and Hispanic. It is disgusting to me that these doctors see everything as a dollar sign. They go ahead and continue to ask you to take test and make appointments to feed their piggy banks but are incompetent when it comes to what you came to them for. I pray I am able to find a team of doctors that can help me. I am willing to pay whatever the price, as long as there is quality!!
