  • I've been to this art store a handful of times as well as the alternatives like Hobby Lobby and Michael's. I've got to say that after today's visit I'm going to keep my distance from this one. Pull up on an admittingly very busy Saturday afternoon. I've got a list with 3 simple things on it: Yellow acrylic paint, poster frames, and those bistro style chalk 'markers' for my kitchen chalkboard. No extras, no impulse buys, just get my list and get out, preferably in about 10-15 minutes. Sounds easy right? Well the first item I seek out are the poster frames since I've been here a couple times for some and I know exactly where they are. As I walk down the aisle I notice the big, red signs that read "All Frames BOGO Free!" and I'm thinking that today's my lucky day! Correction: It was everyone else's lucky day... The nice, mid-range 24x36" frames are all gone and all they have left are the really cheap version and the metal-finish expensive ones... even at BOGO the higher priced ones would be around $40 for two frames for posters... guess we're going with the cheap ones with the breakaway frame pieces. OK, at least it's a good price.. (PS I did try and get someone's attention to see if they had any in the back but the one associate near the frames was at the custom order desk and there were 4 customers around her). Item #2: Acrylic Paint. Found the aisle pretty easy, although it would have been nice to have seen an employee to ask as I passed over the aisle a couple of times before finding it. Once again, they've got a great deal on this as well. Buy one get one half off... one problem, this time they're out of the SIZE that I wanted. I did finally scout out an older lady with an A.C. Moore uniform on so I made my way over to her and asked her if they had any more of the larger size and I just got an "I don't think so..." *sigh* Strike 2 outta 3. So while I had a real, live associate in front of me after walking around a while trying to find my three items, I just go ahead and ask her if they have Chalk Markers. She looks at me confused and says "Maybe you can look in the art section..I don't know if we have those," and points in some vague direction behind her. Um, excuse me? The "Art" section? It's an ART STORE! What does this even mean??? After walking around the store once again, growing more and more frustrated, I stumble upon the 2nd associate working the sales floor since I've been there and tell her what I'm looking for, and as it turns out they have an entire aisle for chalk board 'stuff' and I just overlooked it because it's nowhere near where I thought it would be (back over near the frames instead of near paints and markers like I assumed). How on earth the other lady works here and doesn't know about a whole aisle of chalk, chalkboards, chalk markers, etc. is beyond me. We're now 40 minutes in, and the lines up front are atrocious. The ONLY reason this isn't a complete wash of a visit service-wise is because the cashier Aarika was a breath of fresh air. Very friendly and I even left a little less frustrated. If I hadn't committed to mounting the dozens of posters and get it done today I would have just left... This store needs better training and more staff working the floor. Hopefully they turn it around before they lose more customers because they probably lost one today.
