| - In the words of Kuzco: BOOM BABY!
I was in the area for a doctor's appointment and had some time to burn. Did a quick Yelp search and settled on Bangkok.
Location/Ambiance:
-strip mall restaurant. Do not let the outside fool you. The inside is well decorated and clean.
-plenty of parking
-modern simplistic decoration
-steady customer flow during lunch
-nice quiet atmosphere with a single TV
Service:
-one employee (male) who was the host, waiter, and to-go order waiter. He was very quick and efficient without losing his polite and friendly attitude.
-lunch time service took less than 5 minutes to receive appetizers and less than 10 minutes to receive entree (from time of order).
Food:
-lunch and dinner orders come with complimentary soup of the day and a veggie spring roll with dipping sauce. The soup of the day was a variation on Khao Tom (chicken and rice soup, broth based with scallions and cilantro); it was easily the most simple and perfect replication of my Thai mother's homecooked dish (which was more broth-based than coconut milk based). The veggie spring roll was a little limp and served at room temperature, but had good flavor. The dipping sauce was excellent. I 'd recommend getting a dinner/lunch combo just for these freebies.
-I ordered the lunch portion of the yellow curry with chicken (Kaeng Kari Gai). I asked for it "hot" and it was the perfect amount of heat: enough to make me say "wow" but not enough to make it inedible. Just right! Also had excellent flavor. Served with an appropriate amount of rice.
-fiance ordered his standard Massaman curry with pork, also hot, but the dinner portion. He was able to eat about half of the dinner portion, with leftovers for later. He, too, was very impressed with the flavor and heat.
Price:
-here's the best part: lunch for two (with complimentary starters) for under $20 (actually, about $17). With enough for leftovers.
I hope I get back to Bangkok Thai BBQ ASAP. Excellent service, perfectly authentic Khao Tom, and exacting execution of flavor and heat in the curry. Cue drool.
