  • People! Why hasn't anyone pointed me to this place with a tad more enthusiasm? Between personal recommendations and the overall yelp review, I hadn't given it a second thought until today. Our family is on a mission to find a decent Friday fish fry that is relatively accessible to the west side, and that's how we ended up here. I will admit, my expectations were low. And then they blew my socks off.... Tara, our server, was outstanding. Thank you for your obvious appreciation of food and sustainability and preparation. Thank you for answering my 9 year old's query about the soup of the day with a mouth watering description written for, well, anyone else but a 9 year old...because she appreciated it and I appreciated you treating her that way. I came for the fish fry and ended up not being able to resist the fish special - grilled amberjack with a pearled pasta, sautéed local asparagus and grilled ramp with a Chile lemon salsa (more of a sauce). Holy. Cow. I would like another. Perfectly prepared in every way and I'll be thinking of this fish for a long time to come. I snagged a bite of my mom's bluegill fish fry (Canadian Great Lakes caught) and it was wonderfully done as well. Light breading, bluegill yumminess...would have liked to see something a bit more original with slaw or veg choices but fries, baby reds, green beans, and broccoli are your choices. They also set the fish down onto the broccoli which caused the broccoli to take on the fish taste which was a bit of a turn off. My little food aficionado likes to order something she has never tried, and tonight's choice was clam chowder. Full of carrots, celery, potato, and clams and NOT the same boring white color I attribute to clam chowders, this went over quite well. "One of the best burgers I've had in a while" is from my husband - that doesn't happen often, so take that for what it's worth (a lot, the man prizes a good burger). We had no room, or we would have ordered any of the several pies that passed our table for dessert. I will be back, and I do look forward to it. Please G&B, consider that fish special as a rotating menu item!
