| - So I wandered in here today to get a birthday cupcake for a friend. The guy behind the counter was very friendly, helpful and informative. It's very clean and almost sterile looking but the signage is terrific - very clear, easy to read and informative - tells you all you need to know about pricing and sizes. There are two sizes (regular, which is huge and mini which is perfect, if you don't want to commit to having just one flavour of cupcake/admit you had an entire one by yourself). Lots of great flavour combinations. Since I've been making my own red-velvet baked goods since 2000 (having lived in the South for a bit), I'm kind of over it (I had asked which was the most popular and told that it was the red velvet) - may try it next time. However, I got the double chocolate regular one for my friend and treated myself with a (thanks for the suggestion, friendly guy behind the counter) mini chocolate Neapolitan (with chocolate and strawberry icing with a little chocolate piece on top), It was AMAZING! Before I go into details around the taste, I should mention that the packaging is gorgeous! Little boxes with cellophane windows make me want to keep a little toy inside and carry it around proudly. The clear bag logo'd bag is a great idea as well. Okay, so the icing was great! No sugary lard grocery store crap icing here! It was flavourful (the strawberry was surprisingly fresh tasting and fruity), satisfying, sweet enough without going overboard. The cupcake was light and tasty but not strong enough to compete with the icing flavour. My friend's double chocolate cupcake was...well, there's literally not even a crumb left, and she had chocolate icing smeared on her face like a little kid, so I'd venture it's safe to say that she loved it! These are not cheap - but with the cupcake trend happening, I have yet to see any specialty ones that are. I'd say it was worth the price. I think I'll be back!
