rev:text	I was a patient at valley hosp for a surgical procedure on 9/22. Being an ER nurse myself I was very nervous and disappointed my procedure couldn't be completed at one of the hospitals I work at, however I was quickly put at ease. My pre-op nurses Traci and Tracy were fabulous. Thank you so much ladies for making me feel comfortable. They were friendly and attentive, the OR staff were equally great! My post op nurse was caring, addressing my pain and discomfort with compassion and making every attempt to make me comfortable. However, the MSU I was sent to was just ok. The room was clean I had everything I needed and I was in a private room which was great. However, the staff rarely introduced themselves, (this included the attending physician, which I thought was my surgeons partner) I thought the CNA was my nurse. My nurse on MSU was mediocre. Rarely performing hand hygiene, never using patient identifiers which is nursing 101. I received one dose of IV pain medications and the RN never came in to check on me after administering these meds. Being able to walk the unit the next morning was nice but the staff are not very friendly, I was not greeted with a good morning by anyone, so I just greeted them :). I'm grateful to only of had to stay one night and overall my stay wasn't horrible, there were however a few important aspects that were missing like identifying patients, performing hand hygiene reassessing after med administration. But there are the simple things that we should be doing. Acknowledge and greet your patients, introduce yourself, put a smile on your face, these really do make a difference to patients.
