| - Being new to Madison, and a former New Orleans resident, I was hoping I would love this place. I got a chance to take my wife on a rare dinner date, and we both ate until we were stuffed! We were greeted and given mardi gras beads by Lily, our 7-year-old hostess. She was sweet, and funny, and checked up on us during the meal. Quite entertaining. The highlight of the meal was Cajun fried cheese curds with tempura batter. I'd been told in advance that these were awesome, and after the first bite, they immediately climbed into the "best in Madison" position. The cornbread and house-made butter was melt-in-your mouth. I craved some raw oysters on the half-shell and enjoyed those with excellent cocktail sauce. For entrees, I ordered the crawfish etoufee and my wife had the smoked tofu. I was pleasantly surprised that the etoufee was garnished with boiled crawfish and a few plump shrimp. The only thing that was moderately disappointing was the sazerac, one of my favorite drinks. I was probably looking forward to that as much as anything, but it tasted a bit overly sweet and kind of watered down. We only got to hear a bit of the jazz before we left, but it sounded great, and next time we'll look forward to staying longer. All in all, an excellent, affordable experience!
