  • MONTE-CHEAT-O Dental is a more appropriate name for this place. Avoid, avoid avoid...ripped off twice here and will never return. I recently retired from the Air Force and this was my first experience with non-military dentistry in almost 20 years. After roughly 10 years of "no cavities" in the military, I try this place out as it's the closest dentist to my home. Essentially, I was convinced by the doctor that my teeth were going to rot out of my head and that I had signs of pre-periodontal disease. Concerned about my smile and distraught by the thought that my dental hygiene wasn't up to par, I was an easy mark for them. Was convinced that I needed an expensive laser gum treatment which turns out, is not covered by most insurances. Thinking I was making the sensible choice so I'm not wearing dentures when I'm 40 years old, I kissed a few hundred dollars goodbye. Then, they suggested that I should start a schedule of 3 month periodontal maintenance cleanings to monitor progress of the treatment. So, after 2 consecutive perio-maintenance cleanings, I'm told "Your gums look great, let's put you back to normal 6 month cleanings/exams schedule". I return 6 months later for my 'regular cleaning' I'm told "everything looks great, keep up the good work!" I stroll up to the counter to schedule my next appointment, and I'm told I owe payment for today's services. I'm somewhat puzzled, as this was my first appointment under a new dental insurance company that covers 100% on cleanings and exams. When I ask the receptionist, I'm told my insurance only covers 60% on cleanings. So, not knowing the entire terms and conditions of my new insurance, I reluctantly whip out the plastic and pay. Agitated, I immediately return home and start researching why I'm paying $60 a month insurance premiums, and then paying for a $50 copay for a cleaning that was supposed to be covered at 100%. After several phone calls between insurance company and this office, this is what I found out. My insurance covers 100% on both prophylaxis and one periodontal maintenance cleaning per year. Once you get the laser gum treatment at Monte-Cheat-O after they convince you you're in the pre-stages of periodontal disease, your records will always be documented as such that you ACTUALLY have periodontal disease. Then, every future cleaning at this place is categorized as perio-maintenance cleaning which costs more money. Read all of the negative reviews about this place and you'll notice a trend. Frequently convinces patients to get expensive treatments that aren't covered by insurance. This place is just another greedy dental group that values profits over customer care and satisfaction. I wish I would have read these reviews before falling victim to this place.
