Eating at Casella's is like coming home to a home-cooked meal - if you live in Philly and have great cooks in your family. No wonder they just celebrated 40 years in business.
People: The Casella family is so unbelievably nice! I met Dad and the two daughters who were working that day. They are friendly and welcoming to everyone; he even came and sat at my table to chat. 5 stars for the owners.
Food: Oh.my.word! I ordered a beef sandwich with peppers and onions. They showed me the paper-thin beef before they cooked it to perfection and served it on a beautifully soft white roll. My mouth was full of deliciousness. They also offered samples from their selection. The coleslaw was not too sweet and not overdressed, so very good. The chicken salad sample had a bit too much creaminess for my liking, but was still flavorful. They make everything from scratch (except the pickles) and I look forward to trying more offerings. 5 stars for the sandwich alone.
Ambience: This is a no-frills environment, but it's light and clean and full of lovely people. One wall is covered with pictures of the graduating classes of Saguaro High School since the 80s - because that's where all 4 daughters attended - so 5 stars for hometown appeal.
I simply can't wait to go visit again and say "Hi!" to my new family.
