| - I've been a pretty avid thrifter for eight solid years in many different cities. This location disappoints me, well actually the whole Value Village chain seems to disappoint me more with each visit. It's not the grime, fluorescent lighting or picking through that bothers me, but commanding higher prices while all the previous elements are still there.
When I used to make my bi-monthly Value Village trip throughout high school I remember shirts were always under $5, shoes, jackets, blazers and skirts under $10. If something had a weird fit it was worth taking it home and spending the time altering it. Now, it seems they think if something is even Gap or H&M it warrants designer prices for used goods. This little long sleeved H&M shirt was $10, when it probably went for around $15 new and I wouldn't have to pick through racks of XXL Bugs Bunny and Sylvester moth-eaten hoodies from 1989.
Value Village seemed to jump the shark the moment they introduced the fancy barcode tags and jacked their prices. A few of the other locations in the GTA are decent(the one on Dundas in Mississauga), but I much prefer Goodwill(St. Clair W. location) these days.
A word to the wise for thrifting, it's usually ONLY worth buying something that is either high quality, designer accidently underpriced or true vintage gems. Factoring in the time and cost, you shouldn't settle for anything less.
