Upstream was one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. I had read about the changes at Upstream, I decided to try it by myself.
As a good food lover, I don't mind to pay more but I do care about well designed and well cooked healthy food. At Easter Sunday buffet, I saw big chunks of iceberg lettuce, devil egg, thick cut irregular shape raw country ham; quite a few side dishes thickened with flours and cream; and very oily asparagus. Spanish paella was so over cooked that the shell fishes were all completely dry.
The traditional Italian lasagna should be multi-layers with juice, tasty filling and cheesy topping. The lasagna I saw was baked in individually in 4" -5" shadow dishes with no more than two layers. Top was blacken and It was dry.
Upstream was famous for their fish cooking skills, their salmon use to be so tender and juicy. But yesterday's salmon was completely dry.
It was indeed a big change at Upstream.
The service was good and the waitress were very kind and helpful.
