I finally made my way up to L'Opera after finishing lunch with a friend to get some of the cakes for tea time. It's a quaint little place decked-out in a typical cafe style design. I noticed that it could use a bit more lighting to brighten up the interior atmosphere. But I made my way quickly over to the display of dainty looking little gateaus. The globular shaped ones caught my eye and after a bit of thinking, I picked the Polar Bear and a Caramel Meringue Crunch, plus a small sized Latte (I might as well try the coffee while I'm in a cafe, right?)
After settling the bill with the friendly Barista I made way home and that evening I tried half of each cake for dessert.
The Polar Bear is composed of Red Bean and White Chocolate mixed in what tasted like a cheesecake batter, the globular cake is placed on a thin layer of sponge cake. It taste great, not overwhelmingly sweet and the cake slowly melted in my mouth. The flavors in the Meringue cake blended and complemented each other. The caramel added the sweetness to the cloud-like chewiness of the meringue which also had a cheesecake type filling, maybe a Mascarpone-like filling found in Tiramisu. Loved it! Oh, and also the Latte tasted of a balanced ratio of coffee to cream.
So yay! I'm a fan and I'll be back to try out the other cakes.
