| - I brought my dog here to board for a long weekend a couple years ago. I wasn't too impressed back then, but I decided to give Applewood another try this past weekend after seeing the improvements and renovations they've done since then.
The ground from the outside are gorgeous - I felt very swanky walking up. There's an animal hospital right next to it, so that was reassuring (just in case). Friendly girls at the front desk opened the door for my pooch and I, and the check-in/check-out process was smooth as could be. I was relieved to see that my dog was in good spirits, because there are some boarding facilities that she leaves in poor shape. I also liked that they included flea and tick prevention in the price, as well as a daily one-on-one play time with the room I booked.
Now, I won't use the word "complaints", but here are some "overall thoughts". This place can be pricey. I decided to pay a little more this time so my dog could stay somewhere nicer since she would have to board for five evenings. I know that this is how it is with all boarding facilities, but you have absolutely zero clue what is going on behind those doors after you leave. Perhaps some pictures during play time, or little updates...maybe even the option of videos for owners to peek at once in a while??? The grooming was a bit expensive, so I declined, even though I knew my dog would leave dusty and matted (which she did). When I paid, there was a line for tipping. Maybe I'm cheap, maybe I've been going to way less high-brow places, but I've never been asked to tip before for boarding my dog. I was a little taken aback, but still tipped a bit, figuring that it was for the awesome employees at the front.
Overall, I was satisfied with Applewood Pet Resort. I would definitely board my dog here in the future. Despite the price, I feel it's worth it, given all you get.
