  • A trainer (fitness not Pokemon) took me here a few years ago to get a hula hoop. They sell these awesome weighted rubber coated hoops that are actually easier to keep up than your dollar store variety that will blow away in the wind when you crack it in two after it abruptly plunges down to your ankles mid-twerk because it only weighs a half a gram. I know the neo-hippies at your local drum circle are getting PVC tubing and wrapping them painstakingly with psychedelic duct tape (available at Home Depot) but who has time for that? Stoners, obviously. And even those are relatively lightweight. I've got a 4-month polar vortex worth of peri-menopausal middle pudge to contend with, I need a hoop with substance. I've never seen them anywhere else and I can't remember how much they cost (maybe around $10), cheaper than a Pilates pass card. ALSO: I kind of got hooked on the packaged dim sum that they sell in the cafeteria area. As I was perusing the other reviews, I saw a photo posted of what the plate used to look like, which was round and held a variety of dim sum dumplings, but over the years they've squished them all in a rectangle piece of styrofoam: 3 shrimp balls, 4 pork balls, and one mystery dumpling (maybe veg?). At first I was pissed because a) not visually exciting and b) wtf are they trying to pull with change? But then I calmed down. Why would I care? I only like the shrimp and pork balls anyway. THERE IS SOMETHING ON THE PORK BALLS LIKE ANGEL DUST, I AM ADDICTED! I come here twice a week (sometimes more).` It makes me so very, very happy. Once, on a bleak winter day, I sat with my dim sum staring out the window with the view of the smoke stack and the ships in the frozen harbour, I watched an empty plastic bag dance on the abandoned railway tracks, I was overcome by the melancholy beauty of it all, that I scrambled to find my phone to take a Vine of it but by the time I got it set up, the bag had blown away. I waited for it to come back but it never did, perhaps a fleeting spectacle of pulchritude to remind me to slow the fuck down and stop swallowing these balls down whole, CHEW! That was also the day they had tins of Hello Kitty marzipan on sale. Hollah!
