| - My friend and I tried tubing for the first time Memorial Day weekend on Monday. Tubing was a blast, so relaxing, fun, and scenic--the mountains by either side of the river are so picturesque and breathtakingly beautiful. The only thing that went wrong was we did not stop at the right exit as there are no clear exit signs of where to end your tubing trip, ...this is where our crazy adventure began. Read more to learn what happened to us!!
We rented tubes for $17 each and the cost of the rental tubes included a shuttle ride to where we started floating. The whole trip was about 4 hours long and we started at 9 a.m. when the place opened. At 9 a.m. there were still a great amount of people there because of Memorial Day Weekend. People of all ages and groups of families came. I would suggest renting a separate tube to keep your personal belongings in including food and drinks. I carried a small backpack where I was able to fit snacks and cans of spiked seltzer in. My backpack ended up getting wet so some of my snacks were soggy, keys got soaked, and phone got a bit wet as well. My bad, for sure haha I have learned my lesson!
Necessities:
*Sunscreen* apply every hour!! I only applied sunscreen at the beginning of the trip and got sunburnt horribly.
*Water Shoes* bring water shoes with you, because there will be rocks and the river is pretty shallow. My friend and I lost our flip flops so I would highly advise to wear shoes or sandals that are more secure so as to protect your feet in the water with the rocks/plants to walk to the coast and back.
*Food* the trip is long so if you're like me and hangry all the time, you'll want to snack
*Alcohol in Plastic/Aluminum Containers* beer/wine/seltzer cans are the best!
*Trash bag* there are people there to collect trash on the sides but to make everyone's lives easier and more environmental-friendly, please bring a trash bag to throw away food and bottles. Glass bottles are not allowed and will be thrown away if brought.
*Cheap sunglasses* there is a chance that your sunglasses among other things will be lost, so just wear a pair of cheap drugstore sunglasses and don't bring your fancy RayBans, please =)
*Rope* to tie your tubes together if you are in a group. My friend and I ended up using thin towels that we brought to tie our tubes together haha. Somehow it ended up working, but next time....ropes for sure.
*Sheets* to cover the tubes. Because of the sun, the tubes can get pretty darn heated and burn you. Use old sheets to cover the tubes and keep your skin safe.
*Waterproof Phone Case* I bought one of these when I went to Cancun for the beach and swimming in the caves. If you like to take pictures and want your phone with you, I highly encourage buying one of these on Amazon!
********Reason for 4 stars and not 5?*******
The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because there was no way to know where to stop off at. A sign said no exit, so we kept on floating along and ended up getting saved by an old lady who was apparently there to save people just like us who have wavered off. The lady's name was Chris, she was wearing a hat, an orange bikini and a friendly smile. Thank goodness for her or my friend and I would probably still be down there now.
I would suggest this place to place buoys so that people know where to exit and also to safely exit to shore. Even if there was a clear sign that said there was an exit, it's almost impossible to steer towards shore due to the current of the river that naturally floats you pretty quickly down the bend.
Chris carried my tube back to shore, and waited for us to walk back safely--we ended up bruising pretty badly by the rocks, but made it! We then had to wait for 30 minutes until Chris brought us back shoes so we could hike up the hills back to where the shuttles came to take us back to the parking lot. Chris brought us our shoes, and we hiked up rocks, and a lot of sand in the heat and were handed off to an older man who led us the rest of the way. He was so sweet and brought us hats and a bottle of water to survive the heat.
It was quite an adventure but we eventually made it back safely. SO yeah! Despite getting lost, saved, bruised, and sunburnt, I would still recommend this place..just make sure you are prepared before you go!
