  • I have very mixed feelings about Jos A Bank. This review is specifically for the store on Charleston Blvd, across from Boca Park. I've purchased trousers, shirts, sport coats and suits from this store over the past several years, and I'm happy with all of it. What I've bought fits well, has lasted, and the tailoring has been right on target. The two gentlemen I dealt with most recently (Ahmad and Shahrokh) were well-dressed, nice to talk to, and knowledgable about their inventory. I recently went in to buy a couple of new suits and after making my selections, discovered they weren't available in my size in the store. Rather than just pushing me toward different suits, Ahmad asked if I could spare a few more minutes while he checked other locations. He even called corporate. They just weren't available any longer and I ended up finding and ordering two other suits I liked just as much. If the story ended here, this would be a 4-star review, but there are a few issues that need attention. The first time I shopped in this store was in early 2014, as I was preparing to retire from the military. Nothing complicated or special. I just wanted to freshen up my assortment of trousers and shirts since I'd be wearing them more often after transitioning out of the military. Previously a rep from Jos A Bank spoke with a group of us attending a retirement/transition seminar, told us they offer a military discount and to be sure to visit one of their stores. Apparently this wasn't the case. Before making my purchase, I mentioned the discount and was told "no." Then I asked about other locations and told the associate why I was asking. I even mentioned the name of the gentleman who spoke with us. He was polite, but told me Jos A Bank doesn't offer a military discount at any store and said he didn't know why we were told they do. I don't expect companies to offer military discounts, and I very rarely ask, but in this case a group of us were told by a rep from Jos A Bank to ask for it. I didn't argue with the associate, but this struck me as a deliberate bait and switch: once I'm in the store, I'll go ahead and buy something anyway. After my recent visit (when I ordered the suits), I received a call telling me they had come in. In I went and "Sha" quickly realized only one of the suits was in. He was very kind and apologetic that I'd have to make a second trip. It seemed clear that they'd rather have a customer come in just once rather than inconvenience them with multiple trips. He said since I was there, he'd go ahead and mark the first suit for tailoring, then at checkout told me that since I had to return for the second suit (rather than coming in just once), they'd take care of the charges for the initial tailoring for that one. I asked him about it again to be sure I heard right. I thanked him and told him I definitely appreciated his kindness. I returned a few days later when the second suit came in, and Sha wasn't there. A different associate started to ring me up for the alterations charges for this second suit and I mentioned what Sha told me. A brief discussion ensued, I was asked for my receipt (which I had with me) and was then told I must have misunderstood since there wasn't anything on the receipt about it. I doubt I misunderstood. I think Sha is a gentleman and made a genuine gesture in the name of customer service, and his colleagues refused to honor it. I assume they could have called him, but they didn't. Here's the deal: this rubs me wrong just like the offer of a military discount. I didn't ask for it: compensation for the tailoring for the second suit was proactively offered to me. I would have paid for it anyway--two trips or not, but a kind associate wanted to make up for my inconvenience. It's hard to look past an offer being made, then being retracted as if it was never made. It's hard to look past this happening twice at the same store. If there's a third strike, they're out. I'll continue to shop here because of Ahmad and Sha. These two gents are personable and genuinely kind. They're the reason this is a 3-star rating rather than something lower.
