  • PC Summer Sensations Hands On Cooking Class with Wine Tasting - Chef Matthew Kennedy I went to my very first President's Choice Cooking Class at 60 Carlton Street with Chef Matthew Kennedy. I gave 3 out of 5 in terms of cooking experience because the recipe we have on hand is not the same as what Chef Matthew wants us to do which confused me alot! Granted he did explain himself first but thinking that it was written in the recipe instructions, I did not make notes or listened carefully. I guess if you follow the recipe, it will still be fine but if you listened to Chef Matthew, the results will be better. That was my main issue with the class. Otherwise, I believe it's great value for the money - we were served a pomegranate refresher, prepared the strawberries and jam cheesecake, did the veal slider then sat down to eat that. We then moved on to do the pickerel with caper butter sauce (fish got substituted with another kind though!) and then ate those with white wine. Then we had our cheesecake that was cooling in the fridge for dessert! I was able to finish my food but if you're a light eater, you're out of luck because you CANNOT take food home! That's also another "negative" about the class. The bonus though is that you get to take home the PC Black Label products used in the class. I would say that the class is not really suitable for beginners or people who are not active in the kitchen (like me). However, the good thing is since you work as a group (4 ppl max in a group) then you can be as active (or passive) as you want. I find that I didn't feel I had enough time to ask more questions to Chef Matthew as other groups also needed his attention. Plus we only had one copy of the recipe per group. Was it all worth it in the end? Yes! Did it feel like I've joined a MasterChef competition? Yes! I've made mistakes during the cooking process but I've also learned from making them. Overall, good food and great company made it all worthwhile.
