| - As full disclosure, I am not a fan of resorts and spas. To me, a hotel is a place to lay my head, have breakfast, then get out and see the local area. Why travel someplace if you are trapped at a hotel and never get to see the place?
I was here for 3 nights for a conference at the hotel and I didn't experience any of the "luxury amenities" that the resort and spa had to offer.
When I entered the lobby at 10 PM, there was no signage to point me to the front desk and left and right seemed to be identical. I made the wrong choice and walked quite a ways before I figured out that I was not headed in the right direction. I walked back across the lobby and found the reception desk to the right of the lobby. How about some signage?
I might be exaggerating, but my room seemed to be a quarter-mile down a very long hallway away from the front desk. The next morning, I found out that I was as far away from the conference center as I could be without being in a different hotel. I was not a happy camper.
The room itself was pretty amazing. Large, nicely furnished, and feather free because of my allergies -and it truly was allergy free. I had no issues whatsoever, and even got the temperature down to 68-70 where I like it. There was one and only one bummer. The room had two tiny bottles of water in it and my travel humidifier goes through a large bottle every 12 hours.
I wanted to go to the lounge to pick up a large bottle of water, but no go. I have stayed in the JWs in Bangalore and Hong Kong and as Marriott Gold, I expected access to the elite lounge. Nope, they don't have that here, they have the Griffin club which costs $65/day if you want to enter. They also don't have large bottles of water at reception, so I had to buy a soda at the store and dump and rinse it out.
The staff is very caring and several went far out of their way to accommodate my celiac disease with some really cool custom-cooked gluten-free food. Definitely a happy camper here.
The conference is booked here for the next 2 years, so I will be returning, but now I know that I need to bring my own water bottle and hot chocolate for bedtime. I would not come here for a pleasure stay.
Oh yeah, even though it was waived for the conference attendees, there is a $65/day resort fee attached. So if you don't plan to take advantage of the swimming pool, lazy river, and other play areas, you might want to stay someplace else too.
