  • Before I begin my review, I'd like to pick apart the following excerpt of a past review: "there isn't much going on. found the museum to be way too small or my hopes were too high. if you're a kid or going on a field trip, it'll be one of the best thing you'll see. as an adult, quite underwhelming." 1) There is A LOT going on. Not only are there tens of thousands of insects representing virtually all biomes of the world, but there are countless arachnids as well - in my opinion, those are bonuses, since the name of the museum is the "Insectarium" after all. The care through which the curators have taken to present the "bugs" is genuine. The live insects and arachnids are well-cared for and offer a glimpse into the habits of the species - leaf cutter ants at work (simply AWESOME), water boatmen and giant water bugs swimming and hunting for food, walking sticks mating and camouflaging in naturalist terraria, and tarantulas constructing webs. If you think there "isn't much going on", look closer and pay attention. You won't find animals at a more traditional zoo acting so natural as the "bugs" here. 2) This can be one of the best things you'll see regardless of your age. Yes, kids will love this, but this 33-year-old also loves this. Of course, if you, like most people, have an irrational fear of bugs, you may naturally possess an aversion to the subjects on display. Still, know that all the animals, live and dead, are behind glass and there is no way anything is going to escape and attack you. Relax. Read about why these animals are important to our survival. We'd all be dead in a short matter of time if one day all bugs were suddenly gone - and right now we are on that path due to our unsustainable lifestyles. There's a message here that everyone can afford to get. Now that I think of it, that's basically my review. I loved this. My wife and I spent several hours here, and only left because we also get admission to the botanic gardens (another review). Very cool place - check it out.
