| - You walked by earlier and thought: let's get some candles for the house. It's wintertime, and the place needs some brightening up. So after dinner you saunter the neighborhood and end up back where you began. You are greeted by a brightness that makes you feel like you got a good thing going, a precious perception this time around.
You also don't feel like a pretentious asshole here. Occupying the space that used to be Absolutely Art, Stone Fence allows you nostalgia, and really, not much has changed, except for maybe the name out front. Maybe it's the hot chocolate from the adjacent and recently reclaimed Cafe Zoma talking, but there's a warmth here overwhelming the singe on the roof of your mouth.
Someone hands you a glass of red wine, and smiles. There's a children's book reading about to begin, and while you have no children, you can imagine having them someday.
No pressure.
Everyone's cheery and smells nice. The candles aren't overpriced, and there's a menorah there for $18. Nice touch, you think to yourself. You've got to get some gifts for family, so you pick out a tasteful tchotchke and and a few of those candles - whiskey and tobacco flavored - and linger for a few minutes. 3-5 year olds clamor for a good spot for the reading about a zoo animal that recently escaped and is trying to find herself, emotionally.
There's no reason to leave. Sip a little cab', and sample a homemade cupcake after all, despite declining one just a few moments earlier.
Christmas is coming.
