I never thought I would be reviewing a Kmart on Yelp, but then again I never expected to become addicted to the Shop Your Way rewards program.
The store itself is older and isn't exactly clean or well maintained, but there are often decent deals on items. Sometimes you can earn the value of your purchase back in points. I also like to buy Amazon gift cards here since $50 in spend gets you a $.30 per gallon Speedway coupon, which may or may not print -- and dealing with customer service is sort of like interacting with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. That said, most cashiers are friendly and do their best to engage with customers. Lines tend to move slowly but I can empathize with the cashiers who have do deal with a clunky system interrupted by a seemingly never ending series of prompts such as:
- "Are you a Shop Your Way Rewards member?"
- "Would you like to make a donation to [current charity name] today?"
- "Would you like your receipt printed or emailed?"
Try using a gift card to pay for your transaction and you can expect a long wait while the cashier attempts to find the ever elusive manager to override the register. Once you finally complete a transaction, there is generally a long series of coupons good for points back toward different purchases or targeted discount on certain items... Sometimes these can be useful, sometimes they're just a waste of paper.
Anyhow, I try not to go here too often because it can be a frustrating experience, but there is some value to be had especially if you maximize the rewards and fuel discounts.
