I have a French bulldog. She's usually very upbeat, but I noticed she was laying down and wouldn't come lay with me. I panicked and decided to take her to an emergency vet because it was 10 at night and she chewed up a flashlight earlier that day. I called my normal vet office which recommended a place on Shae. When I called that place there was a 45 min wait and they referred me to the vet on cactus and 40. I called and they said they could see me immediately. I took my puppy there. I was crying and the staff was very kind. The told me they would check her vitals. The exam is $95, which is the average rate for an emergency clinic. After about twenty minutes the doctor saw me and told me she looked fine even though she was acting strange. He asked me about what she had chewed. He asked me if I would be OK with an exam to ensure the reason for her symptoms wasn't due to something blocking her digestive system. They told me the price beforehand, $266 (not $480 as someone else wrote) so I could approve. The xray revealed my puppy has an extra vertebra, something I should monitor. It did not show an object. But because she had just eaten so much food, there was a small chance it was hidden. They planned on monitoring her awhile longer and discussed giving her fluids and sending her home for the night for me to monitor if she reacted well to the fluids.
About twenty minutes later the Dr came to get me and informed me my puppy was only having an allergic reaction and bumps were starting to appear all over her body. I had let her outside unattended and something bit her. They gave her a shot and thirty minutes later my puppy was excited and walking around. Now that I know what caused her to act so strange, the xray may not have been necessary but there was no way to know because there was a possibility something could be blocking her digestive system. I was not watching her and she ate a flashlight, my fault. The upside is I learned about the vertebra issue and now can watch for symptoms.
I took my puppy home tonight and can sleep knowing that she has nothing in her stomach putting her life in danger and was only having an allergic reaction. My bill was only $371.00. It's never fun spending money unexpectedly, but it's much nicer knowing she's OK.
I will bring her back in the future in an emergency situation. The fees seem to line up with average prices for the services performed. I disagree with the reviews saying the prices are a rip off. I highly doubt other vets would recommend places that are a "rip off". Also, the staff was exceptionally nice.
