| - I remember stopping in this new joint back in 1999. My mom and I both ordered coffee chip in waffle cones, and were just plain amazed at the huge chunks of high quality dark chocolate in a lovely coffee ice cream.
Since then, I have been to this and the other Mitchell's locations many many times, and I never get sick of it. Well, I guess I have felt a bit ill after a chocolate pistachio milk shake, but blame that on me. Their pistachio ice cream is really made with pistachio butter, so it is just as or more rich than the peanut butter ice cream.
In the last few years, they have gotten more expensive, but what hasn't. They are also trying to be as local as possible, which obviously doesn't include the chocolate, vanilla and certain other ingredients. They use a local creamery's milk and cream, fresh local fruits when in season (just had a strawberry chocolate milkshake (yes, I like them a lot, sue me), and the strawberry flavor from the local strawberries was amazing), locally roasted nuts, local maple syrup, and other things.
Mitchell's makes many kinds of ice cream, several flavors of sorbet and frozen yogurt, and they have some awesome Sundaes. Their peanut butter sauce is delicious, and their hot fudge is very rich and dark.
I had one of their ice cream cakes for a birthday a number of years ago, and boy was that yummy. I think most things they do taste wonderful, and it is also great that they are trying to be as local as possible.
