| - My secret to good health: a smoothie a day. It seems that Juice Box Café agrees. They're in the business of smoothie making. But these guys have traded their briefcases for lunch boxes and PDAs for blenders. With smoothie names like Purple Rain and Strawberry Blonde, it's clear the café is also in the business of having fun. I tried The Berry Manilow, which is a swirl of almond milk, strawberry, banana, and chocolate. They use chocolate chips, which doesn't make for the most perfectly blended smoothie. Some slurps have to be chewed before they're gulped, and there's the risk of chocolate getting stuck in the straw.
If you want to be uber healthy, you can add in flax, kale, spirulina, bee pollen, etc. And if you just want straight up juice, they've got that too.
They also offer a small veggie friendly menu with sandwiches and salads. My go-to sandwich is the turkey avocado panini: turkey, tomato, avocado, lots of cheddar cheese. It's a little on the bland side but still yummy. On my most recent visit, I chose the curry potato soup as my side. It's imperfect in a good way that just proves it was cooked from scratch. Potatoes are melt-in-your mouth soft, like they've been simmering a bit too long on the stovetop, and those potato skins floating in the broth are simply a sign that they were peeled by hand.
Juice Box is a fitting name, because the cafe literally looks like one: screen printed pictures of fruit hang on orange, lemon, and lime walls.
The staff is super friendly too. I visited on a not-so-busy afternoon and was treated to a good conversation with the waiter.
