| - My wife disagrees with my rating, but she doesn't like BBQ so what does she know?!?
Joe's BBQ is always tender and has a good smokey flavor. The sampler platter is the best value for money, with 3/4 lb of assorted meats, although they are often chintzy with the brisket. Their sauces are a little thin, but you ladle up as much as you like from warmers, and they have regular and spicy. The meat that surprises me the most is the smoked chicken breast, because it is atypical but delicious and moist. Another bonus is the barbeque ranch salad dressing. Their baked potatoes are what my wife ends up with and thinks they are fine. And of their available sides, the pit beans are kinda gross, but the mac n' cheese more than makes up for that.
The atmosphere is cafeteria style with a serving line, long tables and only a few booths along the wall. It is family friendly. I like having a locally owned BBQ option, even though Famous Dave's isn't bad. It's a great place to bring visitors or newcomers to the area, as it is a unique restaurant in the heart of downtown Gilbert.
