  • Whenever I go to a record store, the most I can hope for is one serious find. Maybe I'll find a record I've wanted for years, or just something solid and reasonably priced to add to my vinyl collection. I'd never been to B-Side before, but this place is a do-not-miss! If you're like me and my girlfriend, who were passing through the area (we went from Chicago back to Minneapolis) and you are a vinyl collector, you MUST come to B-Side! I had no idea what to expect. Was there going to be mostly junk records (see: gospel and obscure 1970s country) or would I find more highly-coveted 180 gram reissues than I should given the status of my bank account? We found five hundred dollars worth the sort of records that, if you don't buy them, the regret will haunt you til your dying day. Bowie at the Beeb was my "find of the day"- four 180 gram records and a beautiful booklet, highlighting Bowie during his early peak (68-72). All together, we got twenty-one records for $500 including tax. All the records were priced lower than new vinyl in Minneapolis and often were lower than the average Discogs price (not including shipping). We scored all of the Tegan and Sara vinyl ever, Flaming Lips 180 gram reissue, obscure Big Black, and the best value of the trip was Portishead's 3. Sure, that record's easy to find, but it was $15 cheaper than I've seen at record stores in Minneapolis or online at places like Discogs, which is why it has evaded my collection for so long. Bottom line: if you can only splurge on records once in a blue moon, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more well-stocked, competitively-priced vinyl than at B-Side.
