  • While I understand many others have had favorable experiences with Dr. Sheikh, his treatment of my daughter & myself was absolutely appalling. We were referred to his office by our pediatrician for our daughter's FTT diagnosis. Our first appointment, Dr. Sheikh & I had a disagreement that seemingly tainted the remainder of our care. As a breastfeeding mother, he tried to tell me the only way to know for certain how much milk she was getting FROM THE BREAST was by seeing how much I'm able to pump, because pumping is an indicator of supply. False. A baby is much more efficient at removing milk from a breast than a machine & many mothers do not respond well to a breast pump, myself being one of them. Bear in mind, I was supplementing with pumped milk at that time. Formula came shortly thereafter. I had also repeatedly expressed to both Dr. Sheikh & my pediatrician my concern that my daughter's lack of weight gain was due to a poor latch because of her lip & tongue ties. I was dismissed outright & told to come back for a follow up. The day of our next appointment, I had a sick child & had to reschedule. The soonest they could get me in was a month later. When I returned with my daughter for our appointment, Dr. Sheikh had barely walked through the door before declaring that I had to bring my child to Summerlin ER to have her admitted- ostensibly to run tests & determine a reason for her continuing FTT diagnosis. I was given a copy of his notes to bring with me, where I discovered he had written that I refused to pump for my daughter, refused to supplement, didn't come back in a timely manner & had a history of non-compliance, which he had explained to me in detail. Entirely false. The only truth was that I didn't return within the timeframe he had wanted, but that was out of my control. We ended up spending 4 nights in the hospital, where no effort was made to find a diagnosis. They simply force fed my daughter until she gained weight. Dr. Sheikh stuck his head in the door on the second day, didn't come within 10 feet of HIS PATIENT, mumbled something about standard procedure & left. That was the last we saw of him- in our room, at least. We did see him in the pediatric unit, but he never checked on my daughter. So, in a nutshell- he dismissed my concerns, supplied the hospital with false information & refused to care for his patient. I suppose he's a good doctor if accept his word as fact, but heaven forbid you disagree with him. Personally, I will never set foot in his office again. The only positive is that his staff is wonderful & supportive. Too bad I can't say the same of him. Oh, and I've now had 3 lactation consultants & an OT tell me my daughter has a poor latch resulting in insufficient milk transfer. Just as I suspected.
