| - Descriptive phrase: quaint, local diner.
Monty's Blue Plate Diner is located in a quiet but neat part of East Madison, not far off Willy Street. It looks like an old gas station (could be), and there was a 25 minute wait for Saturday brunch when we came. There's space to sit outside, or shops nearby to wander to. Inside it's classic diner, through and through. We (4 of us) were seated at a small booth. It was cozy to say the least.
Katie K. and I split a Chocolate Shake ($6) to start off. It's what you'd expect from the setting, served in a metal tin and absolutely delicious. I as good as chugged mine.
I leaned toward lunch this time around and got the Roast Chicken, Bacon & Goat Cheese sandwich ($9). This dish was just missing a wow-factor (in addition to the Oxford-comma). I love goat cheese, and expected so much with it melted between two pieces of sourdough and chicken, bacon, and tomato. But none of the flavors that should've been present stood out. The salty bacon was lost in the grease of the bread. There may not have been any tomato. The chicken was bland.
I loved the shake, and the sandwich was by no means bad, but there was no warm-feeling deliciousness I expected from a meal in such a diner. I'd return, but get something else.
