  • Yes, we could have walked over from our Sunset Station Hotel room. But we drove. Location: On the grounds of the Sunset Station Hotel and Casino. A sort of mini mall area consisting of this and several other businesses. On the Sunset Rd side of the large property. Just across from the big shopping mall. Venue: Large pleasant shop with lots of tables and a counter for ordering. Nothing too fancy. Food: My wife wasn't feeling well and was craving some soup. Meaning some sort of Asian or Filipino soup. However once we got to the counter and looked at the menu, she wanted grilled fish and a couple of other dishes including pork guisantes and pancit. In fact, she got sort of excited at all of the choices and changed her order several times while forgetting all about the soup. I was looking for a meat free dish and spotted Mongo/Mung Beans with an option of malungay leaves. My wife explained to them that I was looking for vegetarian food. So they made it without fish sauce. It turned out to be good. To me it was thoughtful that they tried to make something special for me. I did try the pork guisantes and pancit and the peas, vegetables and sauce was as good as it gets. The pancit was good too but not as good as my wife's. She said it was very good for a restaurant version. I was asked, by the owner, if I liked the mung beans and I did. She said that without the fish sauce it would have no flavor. However I had added a half vinegar and half soy sauce mixture to carefully enhance the taste to my liking. It was originally a bit bland without the usual salty fish paste. Everyone was Friendly: My wife is pretty outgoing. Before long she had the owner and several other customers talking about their food and sharing their life stories and having generally having a nice conversation. A fun time was had by all ! We enjoyed it so much that we didn't take any pictures. Most importantly the quality of the food was excellent and authentic. We were both happy that we stopped in at Thelma's.
