Barrelhouse 34 is a quaint and cozy beer bar located in downtown Champaign. I had the Negroni and my guest had the Sazerac. Legend has it that the Negroni classic cocktail dates back to Florence in the 1920s, when a count Camillo Negroni- wanted a bit of gin in his Americano, hence the name Negroni and its popularity has been as such. Being a gin enthusiast, I wanted to taste the Negroni for myself. I considered this cocktail in particular to be very dry and highly vermouth pronounced. I really enjoyed my drink, but it was a tad too strong so I think I'll try the Midwestern gin and tonic next time. When I mentioned the background of Sazerac to my guest, they agreed to try it because of the affluence it had over the poet Charles Baudelaire. Be warned this drink is extremely strong but a classic and thusly it was well made. I was really sold over their beers list which included Shmaltz brewing company; as I've wanted to sample more of their brews. I really enjoyed the ambiance and decor with a wood paneled interior and an outside upstairs deck, it reminded me of summer nights and being with friends. The music was great, ambiance and drinks. So in conclusion, it is the bees knees and a great time!
