| - We wanted to be adventurous one night so we decided to try District One. Once we were there, I remembered that I had been there once when I first moved here, but I couldn't remember anything besides the interesting drink menu.
The decor inside is kind of a mix between a casual restaurant and a sports bar. They have a lot of interesting-sounding dishes, but unfortunately, a lot of them do not live up to their interesting descriptions.
The garlic chicken wings were probably the last thing we ordered that came out, and I was excited for them the whole time we waited. By the time they came, they were pretty disappointing. Very dry and no flavor on the outside. When I asked for any sort of sauce they thought could go with it, they brought me a chipotle mayonnaise, which was really unappetizing and does not go with chicken wings.
We got the short rib, which was alright, but extremely salty, to the point that I couldn't eat more than a few bites.
We also ordered a papaya salad, as my boyfriend love love loves those, and he said it was the worst he's had :/ After having a few papaya salads since then I would have to agree. It was just not made the same way they usually are - very little flavor and no crunch to the salad.
On a high note, the garlic noodles were very good as was the steak tartare, which I believe was titled a vietnamese take on the dish and I found it to be uniquely tasty.
The dessert was the best part of the meal. Coconut ice cream inside half a coconut - very delicious, crisp and not overwhelmingly sweet.
