| - This is just about the only bar within a few kilometres of our office, so it's become our go-to destination for the odd landmark birthday lunch or St. Patrick's Day. There's nothing really special about it - it feels like a normal suburban strip mall pub, with lots of wood around, though this one feels a bit more dated and a bit less homey than others in Oakville (like, say, the Niblick). The menu's selection is good - wide array of standard pub fare, burgers, salads, etc. - but I find it to be of varying quality. The fish and chips, for example, is middling in terms of quality and confusing in terms of the thickness of the breading. At times I felt like I was slicing a loaf of bread rather than a piece of haddock. Burgers are generally OK, though.
One real issue I have with the place is the staffing levels - they always seem to be rushing about at lunch with one or two waitresses, and enough business to warrant more. This is especially true on St. Patrick's Day, when you'd think they'd predict a few more visitors for lunch (which they get, but cannot handle).
Still, the staff is friendly, the food isn't bad, and it's about the only place near the office that you can sit down with a drink and the office crowd (Pure Gold down the street doesn't count, folks).
